Morgenlich leuchtend - The Prize Song from Wagner's Die Meistersinger.

One of the most exquisite renditions of this gorgeous moment, sung with Italianate beauty by Sandor Konya, one of the finest Walthers captured on record.
Eva is Gundala Janowitz, Thomas Stewart is Hans Sachs.
Conducted by Rafael Kubelik

I'm Hungarian but i haven't known till this that Kónya Sándor is so good!!!

    He had got wonderful voice!

    :)))

  • I heard him live once, singing Radames with Leontyne Price as Aida, in mid-1960s, quite different from this Meistersinger but also outstanding.

  • Und das darf durchaus auch italienisch!

Meine erste Aufnahme der Meistersinger war mit P.Domingo als Stolzing. Wunderbar, auch wenn der Text nicht gut zu verstehen war.

  • @vstasov Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! this 1967 recording with Thomas Stewart as Hans Sachs and Konya as Walther is quickly becoming my FAVORITE!!!

check out Addiobelpassato's YouTube upload of Stewart singing "Verachtet mir die Meister nicht" which comes after Walther's "nicht meister! nein!" and completes the opera. SPECTACULAR!!!

  • What an astonishing voice Konya had. Big but still luminous. And the brief moment with Janowitz was a delight. Inspiring video.

  • Magnificent singing.TY vstasov for this wonderful posting.

  • @zongorista -No doubt of that. One of the greats.

  • This is a beautiful voice of a past era, like Gedda, who was 2 years younger, but whose career became a recording phenomenon as apposed to Konya whom very few have heard of. Those who enjoy the German fach of Wagner and Strauss would know this voice better and he is a beautiful heldentenor.

  • Von Stolzing was one of his best roles at the Met-no one sang it more beautifully. Also, his Lohengrin was a lesson in bel canto preserved on an RCA studio recording conducted by Leinsdorff.

  • Beautiful voice. The late Peter Hofmann had a shade of Konya's voice.

  • Una voz divina

  • God, he was amazing!
