@atmchickluva Yes, it is real, but it is nothing special or bizzare. It is a South American spider monkey and the people who took the photo tried to pass it off as a South American ape called Ameranthropoides loysi. And also it was not taken by explorers in Africa, it was taken by Geologists in the Venesuala-Colombia border.

most of these are fake but the tasmanian tiger (thylacine)'s real. the only reason it's part of cryptozoology is the belief/hope that it's not actually extinct. the last one died in captivity in the mid 1900's. Some of the animals were real, and just deformed, the other's were photoshopped, but fun to look at

@atmchickluva Not only was it not classified but I saw a documentary that said it must have stood roughly 5 feet after comparing it to a picture of a man sitting on the same object. The photos are too old to be faked and it's known that the same expedition who took this photo left with over 30 people, I think only 3 came back alive.
