IL States - Video 4

This is a big view of the entire room full of players at the 2009 IL State Pokemon Championships that I organized, which was held on Sat March 21st in Rockford IL. I walked around the entire room with the video camera, to give all the viewers an idea of how big the event was and what it was like. This was taken as Round 5 was taking place... We had a total of 165 players from all over the entire region, with 41 Juniors, 47 Seniors, and 77 Masters. the Juniors and Seniors had 6 rounds in the Swiss, and the Masters had 7. After the Swiss rounds, we announced the Top 16 players from the Masters, and the Top 8 for the Juniors and Seniors who then went on to compete in single-elimination finals. I had a wonderful Staff of 9 Judges and 5 Staff Helpers for this event. We opened the doors at about 9am, and the final match for the Masters finished up at 1:30am, so definitely a long day for our Staff and finalists.

As I walked around the room with my videocamera, you could see the player areas, 'parent' areas off to the side on the perimeter where they were free to enjoy the internet, or read etc. I also show you the Art Corner and some of the beautiful and creative submissions we had for our Art Contest, the food area with delicious food that was available, the Collect A Card N Comics area with plenty of fun things to purchase, and our computer tables, where all the results get entered. I also showed the beautiful crystal trophies our players were trying to win, as well as the many door prizes to give away. (At this point I had already given away the Pokemon hats I had made, but you can see them on my IL States video 1) Quite a fun day, and everyone seemed to have a good time.

Adults play because it's actually a very good game of strategy, and also a lot of them grew up playing the game. Why do adults play video games? Some would argue that video games are for kids too. But we all know that's not true... gotta remember, adults are just kids who are now a little older.
