@cpaignboxing Yes because then a "MMA fighter" could utilize his dominate skill set IE (wrestling since that's his background.) Toney wasn't being restricted in MMA, he was just outclassed as Couture would be in a boxing match. Making a video "Boxer vs MMA fighter" I expect to see MMA, not a kickboxing match. Background on Mercer v Sylvia was supposed to be a boxing bout which couldn't get sanctioned so Sylvia trained to box a boxer in MMA. I don't see Floyd being that good in MMA.

@Immortalsyn83 to bad it wasn't a MMA fighter beating a boxer in MMA then it would matter right? LOL why is this any different then james toney vs couture? Except the fact the boxing community doesn't take this or any mma fighter for that matter serious. If mercer can KO sylvia (who is easily top ten MMA HW of all time) then mayweather would have a shot against anyone. Give Mayweather year or 2 of training he would be one of the best MMA fighters in the world

Tom Erikson was one of the best MMA fighters of the 90's. Way ahead of his time. Problem is, he was a wrestler. Without grappling, he's neutered against someone like Briggs.

@silentchaos1 It's because this is a kickboxing match & not really an MMA vs boxing match. This video was made by southernsniper74 to show boxers can beat MMA fighters in a stand up. Unfortunately he used Tom Erikson as an example, who has never won a single kickboxing match. I would have rather seen Shannon Briggs fight a real kick boxer such as Overeem instead of a wrestler that can't use his dominate skill set.

@DoodleBeanzz There is know superior fighting style, I think Bruce Le said it best: "The best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style, to be formless, to adopt an individual's own style and not following the system of styles."
There was plenty of fat on butterbean when he was a pro boxer, Toney ect. You can't judge or generalize an entire sport by assuming, everyone is different. BTW Muhammad Ali lost to Inoki! ROFL!
