Lakeview High School Graduation 2006
**Disclaimer** I want to give the credit that is due to the man who coined this phrase, gave this "very old concept" new and modern life, and who provided me 80% of the material for the speech itself. Although I have put my stint on it, the idea, concept, and much of the phrasing belongs to Rob Bell of Grand Rapids, MI...Teacher, Author, Speaker, and fellow "Brother."

The message of Love Wins has so amazingly affected my life that I knew in an instant what I wanted to speak on for 2006 Graduation. Jesus showed it to be true...and many people through history have helped prove it...they have walked that tough path...and in the end...Love Wins...ALWAYS. Thanks again, Rob, for your teachings and thank you for letting me "borrow" the concept for the day. You said once in a teaching that our stories are each others...well, thanks again for your story. It has become an integral part of my life and my own teaching...and it is affecting the way Lakeview High School students live their lives.

  • ...and those would all be examples of not practicing the belief of "Love Wins" and those would all be examples of completely violating what Christ stood for an using Him for one's own gain. You kinda proved the point... :)

  • sounds exactly like Rob Bell's sermon... almost at times word for word. But his sermon "love wins" was one of the greatest sermons of all time. Obviously this guy agreed too.

  • actually the first quarter of it came from chapter 9 of To Kill A Mockingbird. I heard Rob's message while I was teaching TKAMB and it was amazing how it blended right in. So when it came time to write this speech I started with that and with what I had spoken to my kids, and then absolutely borrowed from Rob (and I give him credit in the comments of the speech). It is so cool to be part of a powerful idea that has existed for so long and is SO true.

  • @lillylars

I'm confused here so hopefully you can explain.I just read a story on msnbc.com which is about a Pastor who lost his job when he posted on Facebook his support for Rob Bell's "new" book, "Love Wins." Now this story is dated today, and it's about him posting on Facebook as if it's NEW or CURRENT, yet your video clearly shows you knew about him in 2007! You even knew it was called love wins! So what's going on, is it new or not? Thanks! !!

  • @BaronVonGodzilla Check out my video response I posted: It answers this question in full.

In short, the book is new... the original teaching he did was from 2004 which inspired my speech in 2006... the concept is as old as God ;)

  • So is Rob Bell gonna give his new god a new name? If making up a new god is anything like making a new band, then naming it is one of the best parts! I'd go with Lovinator.

  • This speech is so amazing!! not only did it prompt me to take on the concept of love wins myself but it also lead me to Rob Bell (who I think we can all agree is pretty dang awesome)

Anyways thanks so much for this speech and I pray it can continue to inspire people

    God Bless

  • @dlewis1498 sigh. He is not making up a God! he is looking at the same God differently than you do, and honestly he knows scripture better than you do I would be willing to bet. Everything he does is steeped in the word of God.

  • @thamuzicaddict

then you should also watch Steve Jobs of Appl'es Stanford graduation speech. Its amazing.,

  • Rob Bell is a great person he knows his stuff an makes you think.

  • @lillylars

Thanks appriciate it and you should look up that story I mentioned it's messed up man

  • @dlewis1498 I haven't read his book, but the name of God is in the bible at Psalms 83:18. Believe it or not this name is in the Bible over 7000 times but for some reason many translators feel like they have the right to take it out, as well as reword the scriptures to describe what they believe in.

  • @johnt3hbaptist This is straight up duality. Come one johnt3hbaptist

  • Thanks for sticking up for the principle that can be learned from other selfless teachers and leaders like ones you cite. Also for crediting Rob Bell. Although he is a lightening rod in ways, so was Jesus and some of the others you mentioned that taught us the we principle. I hope you continue to stay along side of Rob Bell and ensure it is a team of we.
