I'm personally a Mac user... I only run Windows XP in Parallels or Bootcamp if I need to.
Anyways I thought I'd try out the Windows 7 RC in parallels - why not?
So here is the video I made of me messing around in Windows 7.
Not sped up at all, with sounds and all.
In the video I show off many of the built-in features of Windows 7 such as the chess and media center. I know I forgot to give you a preview of the Windows "control panel" but it's basically the same thing as the one in Vista.

As for my personal thoughts after testing Windows 7:
Definitely better than I expected from Microsoft. The annoying "cancel or allow" popups from Vista seem to have been mostly remedied, and the OS itself seems pretty fast, secure, and stable (though that could be just because they don't pack the RC with lots of useless software in order to keep the .iso file size down).
It installed very quickly but was a bit of a pain to customize with the new control panel, but that's where the handy Windows Search bar (completely ripped off from Mac's Spotlight) comes in.
internet Explorer 8 (built in) was pretty fast as you can see in the video.

Now of course this is considering my entire preview is based on Windows 7 running on a Parallels Desktop 4.0 Virtual Machine (VM) with very nice specs... I have no idea how well the OS would run on an older, less awesome PC.

---------------------------
Computer Specs:

MacBook Pro Aluminum 17-inch
2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
8 GB 1063 MHz DDR3 RAM
320 GB hard drive @7200 RPM
512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics
Mac OSX 10.5.7

VM specs:

1 CPU @ 2.93 GHz
4 GB of RAM
256 MB graphics
32 GB hard drive
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Music:
first song - "Beatopia" by me (made in GarageBand... try doing THAT on a PC lol)
second song - "Kalimba" by Mr. Scruff (free song that comes with Windows 7)

Windows 7 RC download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/download.aspx

both the 64-bit version and the 32-bit version should only take a few hours to download and they both will expire March 2010. The best part though, is that it's absolutely 100% FREE!

So yeah... enjoy your sneak preview of the 64-bit version of the Windows 7 RC.
PS. This is the best preview ever!!

  • was it 64 or 32 bit windows?

what are the specs of your mac ?

    which parallels ist it , 5 ?

why cant people give the most important information when they make a video ???

  • @testesterone

A better question would be ... why can't people read descriptions? It's all there.

  • is this parrellel 4.0 or 5.0?

  • 4.0, this was made before 5.0 came out.

  • hey man how do you get windows 7 to boot so fast on parallels??

it takes like 2 mins on mine to boot.. and i assigned 2 gb ram to parallels on my 4gb MBP.....

  • Oh... I actually cut out most of the boot up time so that the video wouldn't go over 10 minutes.

Good question though! It takes quite a while on my computer too.

  • There is no operating system installed in this virtual machine. Please insert an operating system installation CD into the optical drive of your Mac and restart the virtual machine.

  • does aero work in parallels desktop

  • Windows 7 for free:

    downloadblinks . c-o-m

  • Oh Im about to check out the Mr.Bubbles channel!

  • @asianplayer1 Windows 7 should take about 16GB of hard drive space.

  • @MrSquabbles Thanks! I think thats a good idea to just go with the core i7 so Ill just save up a little longer after I get the first portion that would pay for the 13" Core 2 Duo. I think just spending the extra money is gonna be the only staisfying option and the large monitor and extra wireless apple keyboard and all the "full desktop experience" stuff can wait just a bit longer. Everyone on the web has had the advice of the core i7 so Ill go with that! Thanks!

  • @iJonny015 Windows 7 should run pretty fast on your setup (especially considering Parallels 6 which just came out 2 days ago), however Halo 2 will probably be pretty laggy unless you're in Bootcamp. If I were you I'd spend the extra $500 for the i7 - it's a great investment for the future.
