The correct term for the play is "Hook and Lateral". The initial receiver runs a "hook" route and he in turns "laterals" the ball to a teammate.

well although i agree with you it is more commonly called the hook and ladder
the first player runs the hook route the laterals to the player running the ladder route thus hook and ladder

There's no route on any passing tree (pro or college) called a "ladder". .
