  • To the person calling him "cocky." Met him at a Arts festival ~2001. I was embarrassed because only 300 or so people showed up. He still played straight for two hours and kicked arse. After the show, he came out of his trailer to sign autographs. I asked what horn/mouthpiece he played? He said "juss a minute." When into trailer got his horn. Handed it to me and said "you play." I respectfully declined. Pulled out MP and said I give this to you but it is my good one. We laughed. It was very old.

  • lastima que lo entiendo las palabras del maestro jeje :)

  • Met him when he came to Nashville. I had played at a venue several hours before and still had my horn in the truck.i ran into him outback of his bus. I was on my way back to the truck and had locked my keys inside. well the back sliding window was open so since it was being towed away i pulled my horn out.he saw me, invited me in and we talked and I shit u not i sat on his bus and played A Mi Manera with him. He is without a doubt a wonderful man and musician. I will cry the day this man dies.

  • Sign of a great person, never forget where you came from, and never be afraid to tell everyone your roots and how you grew up. A GREAT MAN

  • A few years back I had the opportunity to share the stage with Arturo. Before the concert began he was playing on the piano when I showed him a transcription of one of his pieces I played in college. When I asked him to autograph it for me he took the manuscript out of my hands and played the entire piece for me on the piano. He wouldn't let the house open the doors until he was finished playing the song, I Left This Space for You. It's now framed in my office.

  • I met him at his club in Miami Sandoval's a few years ago. He was a cool guy. I too asked him about his mouthpiece and he showed me it. It was a 3C Bach I believe.

  • ya, i just met him about 1 week ago at the iridium jazz club in NYC, and i asked him what kind of mouthpiece he played, and he pulled it right out and showed it to me up close. he is a very down to earth kind of guy. he just walked into the venue before the show without an escort or a grand entrance or anything, he just sort of strolled in.

  • but i gotta ask still, what kind was it?

  • I met him at the Blue Note in NYC. His sax player at the time looked at me and saw I was holding a postcard with Dizzy's image on it and I told him I wanted Arturo to sign it. The sax man just looked at me and said, "go ahead in there, man--he don't mind." He was right, Sandoval didn't mind. He signed, and joked around a bit. When his set was through, he left the stage in front of me and during a standing ovation, patted my tummy, smiled, said, "I can tell you feel it, don't you, man?"
