This video is a little unusual for HowAudio.com because it's not a tutorial but rather a comparison. HowAudio.com's COO Joe Randeen got to sit in on a mic shoot-out between Blue Microphones Bottle and Don Felder's (Eagles) AKG C-12. You may find the results interesting.

  • c-12 sounded much better

  • Thank you for stating your opinion without getting personal. It's a comparison open for people to make their own choices. Either one is cool.

  • Chances of him saying he prefers his mics?

  • Chances of him being honest? 100%.

  • Chances of him being compensated for the endorsement with some new BlueBottles for his mic locker!? 100%

  • You don't know what the agreement was between Blue and Don. If you like the C12 that's totally cool. That's what the video is for - to let people hear both of them and make up their own minds. Blue is not afraid to put their mics up against some of the best mics in the world. Don was honest in his assessment - be an adult and don't get personal.

  • If this is intended as marketing for BLUE, it's an odd choice. The Bottle was not flattering at all on the acoustic, where the C12 excelled. None of the mics flattered the the amp, although the ribbon was less spitty than the others. The voice over tries to spin positively but the stretch is so extreme that it turns out self-defeating. Honestly, I'd been intending to check out the Bottle at some point, but after this demo I'm really no longer inclined.

  • b6 yum.

  • @murreboy you toke the words out of my mouth :O

  • hated the amp sound

  • C12 is more a warm sound but a tint of muddyness and the blue sound more Clear but sound a bit empty so i can deside :P

  • I'm not super knowledgeable about mics, but I thought the acoustic guitar sounded great through the B7/Bottle. I preferred the C12 for the strat. Overall, for my money, I'd go with the Blue Bottle. I'm a bit skeptical that the differences I heard would end up making much of an impact one way or the other in the final mix.

  • blink 182 uses blue mics. you can see them in use for their vocals in their studio shoots. if i had the money i would definently purchase a blue bottle mic!

  • Gee, you think the narrator has a bias? I found that the Blue pushed forward resonances that I would have chosen to eq out in all examples except the last guitar test. The c12 did seem a tad scooped compared to the Blue but in most cases, I think it was smoother and better sounding.

  • Honestly, I dig both microphones. It just kind of depends on what you're looking for on sound for mix. However, that's just me.

  • what ever cap you use the c 12 is stil the best sound..like the u 47 from neumann
