The "Clean Up Your Act" protest of the SF Chronicle by the MRSA Action group.

(thanks to Philip Ruth for interview assistance)
(text below by Ken Hodnett)

The January 15, 2008 front page MRSA article by SF Chronicle medical writer Sabin Russell contributes significantly to a media firestorm worldwide of negative press for the gay community and causes an angry response from the local community unfairly implicated in the report. As a result in late January a grassroots organization formed in San Francisco called the MRSA Action Group.

The situation illustrates the need for critical analysis of some preliminary medical findings before printing newspaper articles to be read by a public too often unaccustomed to employing those skills who, because of longstanding indoctrinated bias or bigotry, may interpret, then apply negative cultural judgments and consequences on a large scale, personally and professionally, toward this minority to great effect. Such actions are especially obvious in those who have openly declared 'cultural war' on the community and have prosecuted it with religious conviction for decades. In practice a war that continues to have multiple fronts.

MRSA is in all communities and may kill regardless of which community acquired a more resistant strain first - or most recently. Finger pointing in the name of one's religious beliefs will not absolve nor save the accuser from infection.
There is more information from Dr. Loftus in the interview section of this video.

This protest occurred March 12, 2008 and continued for about 30 minutes.

  • it's sad but true that the only times i have ever heard of MRSA were in association with the gay community. the past season of Project Runway, and now. so that sucks.

  • Brilliant and wonderful. Thank you for posting this, especially as a response to my video.
