Rep. Schaufler expresses need for jobs

Rep. Michael Schaufler, D-Happy Valley, talks about the need for jobs in Oregon at Wednesday's House Committee on Business and Labor hearing.

Later that afternoon, Schaufler apologized to the body for making this speech while in committee calling it out of order.

When people do not have jobs they have to go on welfare. No new jobs are being created in this horrible town and everything is being cut. We are being blamed for things we did not do. As long as their laws eliminating call center and manufacturing jobs where they can go to other states for lower wages-things will never ever get better here. NAAFTA has caused all of this garbage and am tired of being blamed for something I never ever did. I hate it here in this fricking town and hate the laws.

People that think that things are getting better here in Portland are wrong. They are not. the REAL rate is still 24% or more. The employment department does not care and does nothing but complain that 900 people a day are going there. Until more jobs are created here things wont get better. They are trying to kill off the population. the rich will end up having to pay all the taxes for everyone after this is over if the poor continue to be unemployed and jobs are being eliminated.

Oregon is doing nothing to help people find jobs. Companies are not coming here-they are leaving here in droves. NAAFTA has made it legal for companies to leave here. Last year in 2009 and 2010 there were more companies that left here to get lower wages than any other year ever. The unemployment office does not care. What this is going to do is make all the rich that are working to have to pay for all the welfare programs for people who cannot find jobs. I want to work and no one will hire me.

People are not going to get back to work unless they repeal NAAFTA. There were so many companies that closed down and eliminated millions of jobs last year here in Oregon in 2009. Things are so bad here. WE also have the city that has the higest taxes for companies to stay here and because taxes and fees are so high in Oregon companies are leaving here left and right. I do not pay any taxes on unemployment and so many people (50%) are unemployed now. Half pay the taxes for the other half here.

Thank you for posting this video of how bad things really are. The unemployed are not all lazy. There are no jobs for anyone in Oregon and the Employment Department does not care and when you call them say they cannot help you. I would appreciate ANY kind of a job. The call center I worked for laid me off due to NAAFTA and moved to Arkansas for lower wages and got people for $6.25 an hour and 190 of us had no where to go. It has been a year and no job still. I hate what they have done to people.

This is exactly what Oregon needs. We can't keep spending money we don't have. There needs to be some serious cuts in spending. For those unfortunate people getting free money from the State, they need to do something in return, you can't just keep giving it away!

This is an exception to the Democrat rule. Their general bent is to stand between us and our natural resources. Generally speaking, democrats, when in power, vote the way our enemies would vote to destroy our country, were they given representation in our legislatures. Separate us from our resources. Kill the unborn. Celebrate perversity. Encourage dependency. Weaken defense.
