I first heard this song when John sang at an open mike night in PA in the late 70s or early 80s. I didn't remember his name or the name of the song - only the line "when I grow up I want to be a tree". One day, years later and after moving to MD, I heard it on my car radio. I memorized his name and the song's name so I could find the CD. I finally got to see him again last month. Awesome singer/storyteller!

This is one of my all-time favorite songs!! I come back to it again & again, often finding myself singing it in the middle of some random moment! LOVE IT--thank you, John Gorka, for your creative take on trees & cows and all sorts of other beautiful analogies you sing!!
