How to mask/ blur a persons face or any part of a clip in Sony Vegas 7.0

1. Add your video to the timeline
2. On the video track, right click and select "Duplicate Track" (a copy of your video will appear above thr original)
3. At the end of the top video click on "Event Pan/Crop"
4. In the bottom left of the "Event Pan/Crop" box, click on the "Mask" to enable it
5. Select the"Anchor Creation Tool" and draw around the part of your video that you want to mask.
6. once youve done that, close it and open up "Event FX" which is right underneath the "Event Pan/Crop" button.
7. Find & click on the Fx, "Sony Pixalate" and click ok.
8. Adjust the levels of pixalation to how you want it.
9. Now your done, press play and the face or object should now be masked.

(if you want to move the blur i the video, look up how to keyframe in sony vegas)

If the subject that you are trying to mask moves in the video, then press "S" on the keyboard to split the clip, select "Event Pan/Crop" and use the "Anchor Deletion Tool" to remove the masked area in that section of the clip, and draw another.

(Sorry the audio kinda when out of sync at the end)

Other Sony Vegas video responses welcome.

  • it did the exact opposite, it blurred the rest of the video.

  • i was unable to get vegas free on the net. does anyone know of a free similar software to put faces on other faces in moving videos?

  • is there a way to crop the image in a square straight?

  • @markaamorossi oops. nvm. i'm an idiot. i fixed it.

  • so i did everything you said to... hit mask, made the mask, then exited the pan/crop box and added the pixelate effect... but it pixelated both clips. the original and the duplicate. i only clicked to add it to the top one, but it's on both. idk how to delete the effect, and idk why it applied to both. help please!

  • Advanced problem here.

I've got all the blurring to work like I want to, except one thing. My project contains several intersecting clips, they emerges for just a short time, to smoothen out the screen change between them. The blurring fails just as two clips intersect, making the blurring useless, since you can just pause the video and reveal the otherwise blurred area.

Another minor irritating problem is that the blur outcome isn't quite the same in the preview as rendered.

  • DUDE I HAVE A QUESTION!! why dont i have a sign on the bottom left of my event pan crop that says "mask" there is no button or what so ever... Just the title "Positioning" im using sony vegas movie studio HD platinum 10 btw... can u help me please?

  • @Karlos9986 How are you?

  • thanks it worked.
