This ending is cool because it explains the reason why there is no record of a man by the name of "Sweeney Todd" being hanged

I think this version is much better, because it shows that Todd realizes the atrocity's he has committed and shows guilt, remorse, and also hopelessness and decides to take his life as penance for the wrongs he has committed, especially poignant after the discover that he killed his wife. More realistic in my opinion.
