America flew hundreds of DC -3s to the UK during the war. The Americans furnished hundreds of DC -3s to the RAF, (which they called the Dakota). The planes were flown up the east coast of America to Canada, then to Greenland, to Iceland, then over to Scotland and down to England. (Many of the planes were ferried by women pilots (WAF) from the U.S to England. Hundreds of DC -3s participated in D-Day flying paratroops and pulling gliders with more troops.
