They only have help to go faster...sure they could drive without pace notes but they wouldn't be able to go as fast and they'd probably crash a lot more.

This guys are some of the best drivers in the world. Some of them race Touring cars, in which there is no co-driver or help etc... And the speeds are probably 3 times higher than in a performance rally.
Every sport has its obstacles. Some people like the sport and some don't
There is no reason to try to insult it or diminish it.

See there you go again. What the co-driver is reading is not a map. They are called Pace-Notes. Is a very technical and difficult to understand explanation of every single turn, bump, obstacle on each curse.
There is no map reading.
