Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters is brilliant just because of the title. But it's also a quite fun isometric shooter where you have to kill robots and rescue humans who are being forced to build the robots in their pants.

This is a request by InsertDiskB.

"Overlooked Oldies" is a series of let's play videos of retro games that I somehow never played back in the day. Many of them will be suggestions made by subscribers.

Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Unit A. The full version can be heard and seen here:

  • Disabled robots 5:06, reminds me of the homeless or fat robots in Futurama, why would they build them lol?

  • @TheBladeJunker haha must be the evil doing of the Mom Corporation XD

  • This reminds me of the MAMECADE review. Ever seen it? Not saying you ‘copied’ it or anything, this game definitely deserves the attention.

  • @eMGeeGFX haven't seen that video I don't think. Or maybe I did an forgot about it and then subconsciously imitated it :P

I should check out that review in any case. I've seen some of MAMECADE's videos and they're good.

  • Looks fun.

I had presumed that this would be an explore 'em up like D-Gen. With a sprite change, it would make a nice zombie survival game.

The ST has OK sound for chiptunes. Funny how the advantages of the Amiga's sound chip have diminished over time. Similar to the resurgence of collector interest in the Saturn now that the 3D capabilities of the PSX look rubbish. Back in the day it was a different story though (in both cases).

  • @rhydermike yeah early 3D looks pretty ugly these days. It's the textures that's the problem. I prefer flat-shaded to low-res textures. Speaking of the Saturn, like Virtua Racer. That still looks great today I think.

  • Hey its a well known fact that all aliens find earth women attractive so they have to be scantily clad. ^_^ You know if I were a Reptilon I don't think it would be very good to have humans build my robots, either they would make them poorly or turn them against me ijs.

For me the only way music is "inferior" is if the composer is bad since even the 2600 is capable of some rocking tunes.

I've only tried it in MAME but found EFTPOTRM to be entertaining enough, shame there was never a followup. :)

  • @eMGeeGFX, this of course being the Atari ST version (needless to say).

  • @CaseofGlass I'm sure it's entirely beginner's luck :)

  • reptilons are equal opportunity employers lol
