WOAOAOAOAOW!!
you should have given a spoiler warning!! I haven't read The Last Battle yet!

Eustace appears to be writing in the book in the first shot, which makes me think it's his journal, which we get to read in the book.
But that would be interesting if he did read fairy tales in secret but was to prideful to admit it. My favorite CS Lewis quote begins this way: "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly."

I saw your comment about GlumPuddle and his thoughts on the 'Orphans' comment and I agree. I honestly think people are over-reacting WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING. I know people love Narnia, but I think people jump to conclusions too soon, such as this because you don't know if this is just to add to Eustace's character to be more of a snob. I personally think fox did this so it adds some meat to Eustace's personallity before he becomes good.

I'm pretty sure Eustace is writing in his journal at the beginning.
As for the orphans line, with Mr. Pevensie fighting in the war he could have been declared MIA/KIA which would make the kids 'orphans' in the legal sense at the time, I believe. Maybe Mrs. Pevensie had to move out of the house, could only afford to take Susan with her to a flat (working in the factories together?) and sent the other three away (to the Professor and the Scrubbs). Just another option.

I thought the booklet that Eustace had was his journal, because in the book he does write out entries. So therefore putting it in his sock would mean that he is take it to Narnia with him.

Where do you get the idea that he reads fantasy books in secret? He might be reading one of his boring books.

If they are actually orphans in the movie, would that possibly tie into the supposed "lost souls" part of the story as well as the appearance of Peter and Susan???
glumPuddle and I talked on the phone, and he disagrees about the "orphans" line. He thinks it's just Scrubb being mean and calling them orphans as if they're parents were dead when really they just left them at their cousins. I suppose it's possible. Either way, Eustace is being a pill.

I thought that Eustace might have been writing down his limerick in that notebook, like planning it out. Then he stuffed it down his sock so the Pevensies would think he was coming up with the rhyme off the top of his head. Wasn't there somehting in the book about that... ?

@efoy27 That's possible. I didn't see a pencil though.

@PrinceRilian There's a pencil in his hand, but you have to look quick to see it. :)

@2cansr2cute Good to know! So maybe it is the journal after all. That would explain him having it on the voyage. Thanks!
