he became in the "singer special" everything he always imagined himself to be. So incredibly brilliant! As great a performance as anything ever on television. Jon Landau wrote, "there is something magical about seeing someone who has lost himself find his way home"....Plus he had the great Darlene Love, with Bobby Sox and Blue Jeans on the show. After all these years there is still no way to put him in context, so great beyond any reasonable comparison, the king.
There was a final edit of this scene, but it was cut from the show for being too suggestive - especially because the broadcast was just before Christmas.
This version eliminates a lengthy part in the middle of the sequence with the girls dancing.
Bootleg tapes of the all the takes for this scene circulated for years, including all the mistakes. In one of them, the girl with the blonde wig got her ring caught in the hair at 1:01.
Not really an out-take. It was a section from the finished product as it was being filmed. He's taking her to the bedroom, but the cops raid the place. I believe the final scene was not aired as it was deemed too risqué by the network. It was reintegrated later. This is available in the DVD boxset.
He's so funny ... do you see that smirk on his face most of the way through. He's tryin' not to laugh. Where can I get this? It looked like an outtake to me ...
