It takes pressure off your knees until you have to push back and return to the start position. Then your knees are under far more pressure had you not squatted so low. Your advice is only good if you squat low and stop there. Unfortunately, most of us would rather return to the start position.

dropping lower than knee eeight prevents knee injury as it takes the pressure off of your knees and puts it onto the glutes and quads

You are dropping too low. If you continue with that form you will seriously damage you're knees.
