Kurt Elling playing "Samurai Hee-Haw" at the Pizza Express Soho in London on November 14, 2009.
Laurence Hobgood (piano), Harish Raghavan (bass), Otis Brown III (drums).
Variously referred to as Life of the Mind (from the lyric itself) and Kabuki Cowboy, it's Kurt's vocalese of a Marc Johnson lick over a John Scofield solo. Samurai Hee Haw is on Marc Johnson's Bass Desires.
Thank you for posting this. I love Bass Desires, and I really enjoyed listening to this.

Thank you so much for posting this. I saw him perform this at the Chicago Jazz Fest and I was hoping someone would have put it on youtube, but no dice! Awesome track though.

Any one know whose solo this is that Kurt wrote lyrics to?

Saw him at Ronnie Scott's last night. Fantastic gig - this guy is a professional and a gentleman. There's no better voice.
