i have to admit, I winced whenever he struck the volunteer. Some of the strikes he was hitting that guy with looked as if it would hurt like hell even with the padding that guy was wearing.

it hurts like a mother to get struck. Tai chi is the art of moving your chi (energy) from your core to your limbs (or wherever it may be needed). When they put all that energy and balance into a slow or even close up strike. . . . ouch. Bruce Lee's one inch punch is a good example. It's extremely controlled, yet powerful movements.

@Smrnv06 I disagree, just because tai chi is slow, does not mean it does not have application.
