The proceeds from YCI's Haiti appeal will be directed toward local youth-focused organizations that YCI met with during an October 2009 assessment visit. If these organizations are not operational due to the earthquake and unable to partner with YCI, the funds will be directed to international organizations implementing long-term development programming with a focus on youth.

YCI has previous experience in reconstruction projects following natural disasters. After Hurricane Ivan in 2006-2007 in Grenada, YCI worked with local partners and young people to provide psychosocial support to youth and implement reconstruction projects. YCI staff and volunteers participated in the following activities in Grenada:
Mt. Pleasant Community Centre volunteers, alongside community members assisted with general construction of a community centre in Carriacou.
Grensave Summer Camp Volunteers worked with local children and counselors to organize a variety of activities focused on educating young campers on disaster preparedness, hurricane awareness, promoting youth empowerment and teambuilding exercises. There were art therapy lessons and together the group created and executed a hurricane workshop module.
Program for Adolescent Mothers (PAM) Volunteers renovated an existing room in the Mt Pleasant Community Centre to serve as a local childcare centre for young mothers attending PAM classes. Volunteers also worked to identify participants, create relevant curriculum, and deliver workshops and professional development for PAM staff members.
