Only the idea behind this is a bit faulty - Because at 1989 the Soviet Union was too weak to attack It didn't have the military strength or the economical strength to pull of a war, nor did the leaders wished to have one.

It would have been much more interesting if it would have been placed in about the 1960s or 1950s when there was the Korean War(dont remember the exact date) which almost broke out into a 3rd WW - it would have fitted very well for this scenario of Russians mounting up

only reason they used 1989 was because of germany in a right mess, and the berlin wall fell then, here the russians fell'd it for them and did what germany did to france to germany in an ironic way, but yeah, it was only the surprise of america being land assaulted if anything that makes it look worse.

@gunforsale lots of wars are started when one nation is weaker and wants to get stronger. wars unite ones nation and boosts production for the war effort. it pretty much makes everyone forget that there where any economical problems. its like a new start. its what the Germans did in world war 2 and many other nations too.

@gunforsale they used 1989 cuz tensions were at their peak with thatcher in britain(dunno the spelling) and reigan in US especially after afghanistan,while in 1950's or 60's tensions were lower.BTW,Ussr had the military strength to crush NATO and with a little more strength even US but not the economy in 1989

@gunforsale I think they wanted to differentiate their units from the typical WW2 titles and put it in some sort of a modern setting. With impact of it being closer to home. In the Korean war, the weapons used were similar to WW2 weapons as there was a scale down of all the forces by the allied side.

@gunforsale But it would have been a World War 2 game (almost) because they still used some ww2 weapons and vehicles in the 1950's and also some (not as many) in the 1960's.
