Opened in 1971, Jurong Bird Park is the largest bird park in the world with 20.2 hectare hillside haven for 8,000 birds from 600 species. When asked why he started his 'brainchild' first instead of a zoo, the late Dr Goh Keng Swee quipped "Don't you think bird seeds cost less than meat?" Totally captivated by the two shows - 'Fuji World of Hawks' and 'Birds n Buddies' - I left the Park feeling a bit like a Dr Doolittle after a bird tried to communicate with me!
