This DVD focuses on the basic techniques in soccer - the foundation of every player's performance. Correct identification of a player's technical ability is one of the most important skills a coach possesses. Faulty technique, if not diagnosed early in a player's development, will become so ingrained in a player that it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible to correct.

These fundamental skills are largely looked over stateside with coaches (from the national team to the mls to high school teams) preferring players who can shoot the hardest/farthest and run the fastest. Off the ball movement and quick, accurate passing are also other important components that are looked over, with 'playing the ball over the top/long balls' used instead in order to deploy the striker(s). This tactic is effective but it's nowhere near as good as technical passing play

The USMNT is actually really good but the reason they always fall far below their european and south american counterparts is because the US players lack great technical ability. Look at the teams of Spain/FC Barcelona for example, every player, defenders included, has the skills to beat their defender and generally manage to keep a level head with the ball at their feet/dribble with relative ease.
