Messing around in SMOD (Tactical 5.56 version). The aiming and sprinting controls are the opposite of STALKER, so that's kinda tricky.

  • SMOD

  • @zadhytia MODS. I dig 'em.

  • Wait does this mean no more secondary fire?

  • @redfoxbennaton Depends on the game and/or mod. In this case, I don't recall ever finding a combination weapon in SMOD. In STALKER, you can have a rifle/launcher combo AND you can aim both (it's important to bind your keys in a way that feels natural to you). Different launchers have different types of sights. In 'Call of Pripyat', the ability to aim grenade launchers was replaced with a cheap zoom, making them more difficult to use effectively at longer ranges.

  • @Xerxes1688 Soul Reaver was one of my favorite Playstation games other than Do0m and Silent Hill.

  • @IggyHazard Don't forget the Legacy of Kain games since the first Soul Reaver, they also have a lot of platforming, albeit always in 3rd person.

Blackthorne is a good inspiration for a tactical sidescroller shooter, I remember that you can take cover in that game. From Worms, I take the feature of zooming out so you can launch attacks from a distance, this would be specially useful for long range combat in the open, could be an automatic function when you do the transition to a new room/place.

  • @Xerxes1688 In 'Call of Juarez', you can climb up ledges (called "mantling") like in 'Prince of Persia', 'Blackthorne', or 'Flashback'. And it's 1st person! Imagine a game with variable perspective like New Vegas or ObLost (1st or "3rd" which some might say is actually "2nd") in which combat is 1st person and acrobatics can be done in 3rd/2nd person.

  • @IggyHazard I knew that you would like it. Although not everybody share our views. A more hardcore fan of old school shooters would say that irosights in a game like Blood is a travesty.

This very video is a proof that they're completely wrong.

I'm also thinking about a Blood side-scroller shooter but with tactical elements from FPS, and game like the old 2D Prince of Persia games and even Worms. You can gun and run, yeah, but the levels would be designed to offer you different approaches.

  • @Xerxes1688 I like that idea!

  • I've been playing Blood II: The Chosen, I'm close to finish it for the first time.

I can't help but feel that the gunplay is a little inconsistent when it comes to weapons damage, they don't feel as powerful as their B1 counterparts.

What about a Blood 1 remake done with the Source engine, and featuring modern FPS mechanics: ironsights, peak around corners and shoot, reload. I would add a new weapon, either a Colt 1911 pistol or a Colt 1917 revolver to share the same ammo with the Tommygun.
