*NEW* Due to the responses I have gotten from this video, I am going to draw up a step-by-step tutorial on how to build your own high quality jib with a low budget. If demand is high enough, we may start building these for purchase as well, for those of you who do not wish to build your own. Check back frequently over the next few months for updates and links.

----------------------------------------
This is my custom built Jib. It is a work in progress; I still have a lot more features to add, but the base frame that moves it around is far enough along to post a video. I didn't have enough counterweights at the time of recording so it is a little wobbly because I was trying to muscle it around.

Features:
1.Modular: It can be used in the 8 foot configuration, or you can add on the 6 foot extension.
2.Tool-less: Can be set up by one person in about 5-10 minutes without tools.
3.Lightweight: All aluminum construction combined with the modular pieces, allows it to be very portable.
4.Adjustable counterweight position for fine tuning the balance point.

Future Features:
1.Camera Zoom/Record/Focus/Iris controls from rear of jib, (almost completed)
2.LCD screen/Audio connections (in progress)
2.Motorized Pan/Tilt.
3.Dolly wheels/track system.

I got a lot of inspiration and ideas from this site:

  • by the looks of it, you spent as much money on the jib as your camera.

  • @uniboyskiier1 Nope, still well under $1000 total even including the dolly wheels and base that I recently added.

  • Looks like you live in Colorado.

  • I do :-)

  • @TheOnlyKingArthur That is amazing and the music helped me in thinking it was amazing so good job with that:) but i need something way more portable and cheaper. I need to do projects with diff scenery in the back of the people i'm shooting. Where can i get much cheaper portable jibs?? ANyone know of any online site and jib in particular?

Also, how do you prevent vertical shaking? Your hands couldn't possibly keep it steady all the way around 360 degrees? I also need a dolly track cheap?

  • This looks great ! have you posted the plans for it ? if so, where ?

  • Great design... can't wait to see what's next.

  • @TheOnlyKingArthur where can i get one?

  • thats neat

  • Cool I'm building my own as well and yours is the cleanest I've seen yet, love the contractors tripod as well. I've found it online and emailed the seller for pricing..

  • where is the link that shows how to build this. Do you have a manual for this?
