Part 1 of 31 - Before you reach for an EQ to help your tracks sit nicely in the mix, realize that your volume faders are your first line of EQ. Even the slightest tweak can completely change the perceived tone of a track.

  • Nice tip but is this a frequency issue really??

  • @Tsvetanof Yep. Certain frequencies are more pronounced at certain volumes. Like when you turn up your stereo you get more bass and more high end.

  • And after you compress and EQ, you will have to reajust all you faders.

  • @rudeboys28712 Not necessarily. If you get the faders right, compression and EQ will only help.

  • where can we listen to the full mix of this song?

  • @slinkyphil The artist is Joshua List and his EP can be found on iTunes.

  • I'm noticing that your arrangements, even before any mixing, are fresher and more exciting than many of my finished mixes. Arrangement's definitely something to pay attention to.

And big thumbs up for the series. :)

  • Hey I love the series man.. I have a question for you about using the volume fader as an EQ if you don't mind. For the drums and instruments, would you recommend adjusting all of the volume faders before panning or is this one of those things that you judge according to the track itself and desired sound?

  • thnx Graham, awesome tips, usually quite simple solutions, and so thought provoking leading to the "happy accident", my highest aspiration!!

  • Hey do u know about miror eq methode in mixing?

  • bro need software or his name to download plz help me bro thanx

  • Definitely adding your vids to my favorites!

  • better known as the static mix trick

  • So this is the 3rd time I watch this video and there's somthing that might be added to what Graham says, it's that each plugin and each process on a track tends to dim the quality of the recorded instrument (plus the charge on the CPU of course). The less you EQ, the more faithful to the original sound it gets. That's just my opinion.

  • good info i would love to see you do a review on the vrm box and see what you think about it
