A recently-discovered film clip of Greenwich Observatory in flames in the aftermath of the attack by anarchist Martial Bourdin on 15th February 1894. This clip was the centre-piece of the 2006 exhibition "Greenwich Degree Zero" by artists Rod Dickinson and Tom McCarthy.

  • Well spotted. I know the attack never took place: Rod and Tom's exhibition "Greenwich Degree Zero", for which the clip was made, was based on the idea of creating an alternative, hypothetical history in which the attack had succeeded. They thought that the attempted attack in 1894 had lots of parallels with what is going on today and wanted to point this out.

  • If you're going to make a fake film about a historical event get your facts right please, he was blown up on a path leading to the Observatory, no fire, no running policemen, no calmly standing around observers.
