Cheers to the most awesome aircraft ever!! I don't think Maverick and Ice Man were too happy about the end of this aircraft's "life" in the US Airforce... Thanks for uploading!

does that flap that comes up on deck only serve the purpose of blocking the exhaust? or is there another purpose?

@stuckinmud00 That's all it does. It's called the Jet Blast Deflector (JBD), and it is not only solid steel, but there is an extensive network of sea water pipes running behind it to cool it. Look up Jet Blast Deflectors on wikipedia to see a great shot of the back of them.

This is such a beautful singing in the beginning, any one have anything that is similar to the singing in the beginning? I like that slow pace singer.

@DrTran312 That's Coldplay, and the song is "42". They're a pretty polarizing band... some people love them, a lot of people really hate them. I just felt it was a pretty accurate song for how I felt about seeing them all fly off for the last time.

VF-213 Tomcats catapulted from a carrier for the last time. The VF-31 would still continue Tomcat operations until late 2006 though. CVN-71 is my 3rd favorite aircraft carrier. Just below CVN-68 and CVN-65.

@delanyify This is true; VF-31 stood down in September 2006 (I was there!), but they never again took off from an aircraft carrier after the day of the video. They only operated from Oceana NAS after that.
