Jerry Lewis in a nightclub act doing a routine he has done for years, tap-dancing and juggling a stick. But at one point (01:51) he goes over-the-top-angry on a non-visual mistake, throwing the cane aground! I wonder why? Just before he starts screaming, he actually catches the stick as one expect him to do...

  • Oh god that drummer must have set on fire after this one.

  • @elvismjbeatles143 Yeah! Angry Viruses on the stick! :-)

  • This is the only thing I've ever seen of Jerry Lewis that has ever made me laugh--after he cussed and flubbed the take, and then got really vulnerable as he was struggling through the act. That was actually funny.

  • Entertainment takes all form including mistakes, it is how mistakes are 'performed spontaneously' that separates the natural comic genius from the 'scientific' comics. Jerry Lewis is the former!

  • @slivatree Great comment! :-)

  • False advertising. A "goddammit" + "Cut!" does not amount to rage or screaming. Besides, Lewis' profane asides are one of the best things about him.

  • An multi-gifted entertainer of a bye-gone age when entertainers had to work! for their money .

  • Sounds like hooked on monkey phonics with the drummer.

Video poster is good at way, way overexaggerating. Must be a tabloid writer.

  • Really? “Over-the-top” angry? “Screams of rage”? I bet my grandmother could scare you with a sneeze, Lampodikt. I’ve seen fiercer displays of anger on Sesame Street. Also the cane work was impressive—did you notice that?

  • @slivatree Indeed, I saw him have similar problems in a video from Vegas in the '80s. He was struggling with the cane tricks but he was able to work around it by using the frustration, running away because the cane was "coming at his head", and so on.

  • i'm sorry but i don't see him screaming in rage at all ya so he got angry but he also worked really hard for what he does but what we all have to realize is that he is also just human so what if he gets mad we all do at some point but we move on after that its part of being human

  • @timramich Yes, one of the few good things about this PC culture we're suffering through (which is all about mind control, of course) is that it does seem to cut down some on the tantrums (unless, of course, you violate a PC edict, then duck and cover!)

  • Absolutely fascinating! I remember seeing Lewis on his telethon with a lineup of approximately 99% of the most famous great old tap dancers and he was actually better than any of them. Lewis, Mickey Rooney, and Sammy Davis were all preternaturally talented and you could make a case that Rooney (along with Jackie Gleason) was the best actor of the sound era.

  • Only these days do people think it's unnatural to get angry over anything at all.

  • He does it again at 3:50 I'm not sure what he was trying to do, but his "scream of rage" seems to be in character (but the "Godammit, cut!" from 1:50 obviously was not)
