@EdmundStAustell - True, about Bjorling. I don't, though, like the WOBBLE of Cigna; her reputation rests-upon, IMO, better than this. It's great, though, to have a representation of the Swede, from 1939, but I SWEAR I can still hear one or two, slightly-missed notes, even from him ... about 3 minutes into this excerpt. Maybe some of the scales were throwing him off, ever-so slightly.

@RudySunseeker Manrico should be a young boy playing soldier :P

WOW!!! 1939. The world was getting a new King!!!

Absolutely superb. Bjorling was one of the all time greats, no two ways about it. Remarkably consistant in his brilliance.

Terrific performance. Bravo Jussi!

con el respeto que me merecen los fanaticos de corelli Jussi Bjoerling es aun hoy dia el manrico mas distinguido.

Sounds like they started clapping before he came off that terrific high C! Still a super post, thanks.

Astounding!!! Thank you for this
precious treasure!!!
What does Corelli have to do with this? I cannot think of two singers so different unless you compare Corelli with Schipa One sang for the balcony, did what he wanted in terms of tempo and holding high notes plus he was best in verismo roles the other JB was a singer of perfection every note was perfect he rarely went over the top with sobs or holding on much beyond with few exceptions lyric basically and his voice was not as big as Corelli better in lyric and some spinto roles then FC

"This performance was Björling´s London debut. Gigli was there. Afterwards he embraced Björling in his dressing room and sent him an autograped photo. The Evening News wrote: 'Manrico should be a stalwart soldier-like figure with a voice to match, whereas Björling is of medium height, bears himself modestly and sings like a poet.
