IBM is contributing a massive database of chemical data extracted from millions of patents and scientific literature to the National Institutes of Health. This contribution will allow researchers to more easily visualize important relationships among chemical compounds to aid in drug discovery and support advanced cancer research.

  • Reminds me of the godlike internet intelligence in Robert Sawyer's book, Wake. It found the cure for cancer, not by doing research, but in synthesizing the piles and piles of research humans had already done, finding the important links that couldn't be seen without a birds-eye view.
