Don't worry about it. Nolan's films barely have any resemblance to the comics or the DCAU, both of which or fare superior I might add.

That was probably more for the fans benefit. Just like in Harry Potter where Daniel never took his glasses off (even in the bath) taking off his mask (when Ras would have likely already known his identity) would have taken off the edge of his personal Hero image as Batman. But that's just my speculation. I like to think it more symbolic; in another reality, the mask was off.

I had never heard of this character before this, but I think the guttural singing in this song (which does not sound too similar to the original voice, but that doesn't matter) matches him.

You might have and hadn't know it. He's in the 2005 Batman Begins as one of the main villains, played by Liam Neeson.
