Rex is one of my heros, he used to give me hell when I was a little boy about not being tough. He'd say " Let me see your hands" and then say they were "too soft". Ha Ha Ha man what good memorys. Rex is one genuine salt of the earth guy. According to my grandfather and dad he was a great driver / innovator. I wish NASCAR would give him and Louie credit where credit is due. Unsung hero of NASCAR! NASCAR quit forgetting your past!!!!
Nice interview. I was extremely fortunate in that my father, Louie Clements, was Rex's car owner and crew chief. I got to hang out at the shop and go to all the races back in those days. Still keep contact with Rex and just published a new book about growing up on the NASCAR trail. The book is published by McFarland and is also available on Amozon.com The title is "The Crew Chief's Son". Thanks, Mike
My name is Rex White too. I used to get mail for Rex White the champion racecar driver in the early 90s when I lived in Taylorsville, NC. I tried to hunt him up and someone told me he was DEAD. The worst part is the ones who told me that said they were relatives of his. I sent the letters back although I was tempted to sign the cards myself. Glad to see this interview--he's still a champion.
