Thanks for this video - I've very recently took up keyboard percussion more seriously after 8/9 years of drum kit and 2 years on and off of orchestral percussion (and the odd single-mallet solo, eg two imps) and i'm deciding to learn burton grip. I'm finding the interval changing with fingers a bit weird and tend to push with my thumb no matter what interval I get - but i'm very very new to 4 mallet grip. Hopefully with some practice I'll get there soon!

Thanks for the post. Great stuff.
Can you show or explain how to close smoothly to a major second?

@dangerics Thanks for the reply! The best I can really do is between 3:24 and 4:00 in the video above. But maybe this will help, the thumb and the ring finger push towards each other to get the inside mallet in a comfy position. The index lifts up and sits on top of the inside mallet, ready to go back in at a moments notice.
The part most people have trouble with is the slight knuckle repositioning. So if you take an empty hand and try to make it as skinny as possible...

@Marimbalogy that is the feeling your hand should get at a second.
Or another way to explain is is try to make the base of your thumb touch the base of your ring finger. You'll notice that your knuckles move into a circular position. That should get the mallet heads next to each other. Hope this helps!
