What has BNI Ever Done for Me?

Wow! I cant believe weve received so many comments on this video already. Some positive, some negative, but it was never our intention to offend people with this video. Although Im pleased weve started a discussion. The idea for Life of BNI was to adapt the background script from the much celebrated What have the Romans done for us? scene to make it relate to actual member experiences of BNI Tonbridge. To do this we needed a lead in and adapting the Popular People Front scene was a way to do it. So that people recognised the Monty Python parody, we needed to stick as close to the original script as possible, so words like Hate were taken from it and are now being taken out of context. Although perhaps understandably, so we are currently looking at how we can edit the video in a way thats more favourable to everyone, because we do not actually hate any other networking groups and are keen advocates and members of other networking and on-line groups.

Controversy surrounded the original film and we have unintentionally inherited that legacy. In reality, almost every networking group will at some point criticize its competitors if this were not the case BNI would not have been copied and its copiers copied themselves! For my own part, Ive been in BNI just 10 months and networking has already returned my investment many times over. But I guess its not for everyone, thankfully there is enough variety for us to choose the network or networks that suit us and our personalities best, be it BNI / 4Networking / NRG / ecademy etc etc.

The furore that has resulted from our simple video demonstrates the passion that exists for networking and highlights that we should all be working, either together or independently, to attract more talented business people to networking, from then on in theyll find their own way to the networking group that suits them.

Please remember, although BNI is not for everyone, without dissatisfied BNI members, your preferred networking group might not exist!

I started in BNI in 1992 and was a director for seven years. I am no longer involved but BNI has a tremendous concept but you have to work it. You have to establish a solid positive relationship with your members and if you are not getting quality referrals you have to look in the mirror. It is all your fault. Are you making it easy for them to refer you? How to bring you up in conversation, what to look for and what to listen for; Training is the key.

Ill tell you something i got both positive and negative feedback from people who have been in BNI. I prefer to do something which most people cant do "NETWORK PROPERLY".

Confidence is my strongest skill along with communication and pushing myself, the amount of leads which i pass on to others its overwhelming.

However BNI is not for me. Although i only know a bit about 4Networking i prefer my own channels. But respect to both groups for being so successful and for those who have benefitted.
