Please at least remember that the town in Salento (Apulia) where the real Maria lived was Nardò, not "Nardo". "Di Nardo" is not a surname, as you could think.

The tarantella album L'arpeggiata recorded is about music that could cured people from spider bites by putting them into a trance. Google it and check, I think thats the general gist but I might not be totally accurate.

Southern Italy has a tradition of music healing sickness... in this case female with spider bite.
Oddly, Islamic cultures have a `Zar` ceremony ..still existing in pre-islamic dark corners. Healing its female ailments, too, with hypnotic music and dance.
I`m sure this dance goes a long way back into the past.
