Isn't the textbook this course uses from 1996? Is there any point in watching this series or should I look for something else more up to date?

A Latin class can't be taught in English, but this course can be taught in Java/Python . The extra effort needed to learn a new language that you mostly won't use anywhere can be avoided if the course is offered in a popular language. That will also help to spend more time in understanding the concepts rather than the nuances of the language , that too Scheme , which is somewhat different in its ways to other langs . When u know English,y wud u ever want to take a history course in Latin ?

That's like asking to take a Latin class in English. You aren't taking this class for the language, but the concepts. Languages are easy to learn, concepts aren't.

Scheme/Lisp is a great language, this is theoretical computer science, if you want there are similar courses using Java: But not as good.
