3 part series marking the ten-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, telling the story of the conflict through the words and pictures of the young soldiers themselves

Episode 1 - Ambushed

This opening part of the series tells the story of a close-knit group of friends from 3 Platoon, 1st Battalion Royal Anglian regiment, who were sent to Helmand province in 2007. For most of them it was their first experience of war. The whole tour was filmed on a helmet camera by the platoon's sergeant, who captured the moment when one of his men, 19-year-old Private Chris Gray, was killed in a Taliban ambush. The film explores the effects of his death on both his mates in the platoon and his family back in the UK.

  • @TheNoGoodnick they are not fighting for freedom.

  • This was a depressing story but necessary none the less. Pvt. Gray like so many others died doing what they believed in, fighting for the freedom of others. This doc reminded me of another doc I saw recently called Hell and Back Again. It reminds us that we have to fight for our freedom and others as well. bit. ly/yYsv5o

  • @sineace2010 thanks, we're all in this together, so i think that any dead american soldier is a tragety, same goes for british or any other coalition force in afghanistan. they all had families, so they should be grieved for all the same. just kind of pisses me off when people bicker about who's better, aren't they all fighting for the same thing?

  • @sainsburyshopper I like that. Not "mine" not "theirs". OURS

  • i'm pretty fed up of all these effing "oh, britains better than america" or "americas better than britain" arguments. both are fighting the same enemy, and starting these pathetic "my sticks bigger than yours" rants just seems disrespectful in my eyes. good luck to our soldiers.

  • America is fucked as a country, I'll give you that. But don't take credit for hearts and minds after we've cleared the road for you Dumbledorf. Your only in the war because we have done the dirty work. A spot of tea with your white gloves... but of course. Pinky out!!!

  • @mfresh1965 .. you Americans have so much to learn from the Brits, especially when it comes to hearts and minds. I mean that in all honesty and with the best intentions .. don't be insular and closed minded like the foes you fight. Cheers

  • I complete changed my Mind about the Lieutenant. Good Man.

  • CHRIS GRAY O:) R.I.P

I am going to join the army soon but im going there for good reasons not for any bad reasons

and yet again R.I.P British and American Armed Forces O:)
