  • For me, the musical highlight of Previn's opera; it is memorably presented here by the divine Renee Fleming, who has one of the most beautiful voices of all time. I can remember the sound of her voice long after I've heard it.

  • Oh God, I'm alright until right at the end, when she sings "as blue as my first love's eyes", and then I can't help but burst into tears. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • My heart aches for Blanche. Previn's music and Fleming's singing reduce me to tears. .. I wish Tennessee Williams had lived to hear this.

  • Can someone tell me what this song is about please!? :)

I <3 Renee she is just fantastic. We are from the same town too! I actually see her mother every week! most amazing family of singers!

  • One of the finest things she's ever done. She captures Blanche's spirit through Previn's heartbreakingly beautiful music. It moves me every time I hear it.

  • @wannamlwithu 1998 I believe this role was written for her =)

  • NO ONE.No one else will be able to sing/act/fulfill this role quite like she did. No, wonder she took a break after singing this role.

  • I saw her perform this beautiful aria at Carnegie Hall last year spring with Andre Previn conducting. It was such a pleasure to hear her sing something written for her. Previn clearly understands the strengths of Ms. Fleming's vocal gifts. Long, lyrical lines blossoming at her top. Even out of context of the opera, she brought this scene to life. I only wish it had been longer.

  • from what year is this?? Renee is such a star!

  • Thanks! I've got to buy the DVD. I'm in love.

  • This production is beautiful, powerful, heartbreaking. The DVD doesn't have a libretto or captions though, so you might also want to buy the CD which includes the brilliant libretto. If they're out of print go to ebay or amazonmarketplace. I hope someone will restore this "Streetcar" soon with captions. Previn adapted the text brilliantly!

  • This is very near the end of Act III just before the doctor and nurse enter and restrain her.
