A little can of pepper spray or a high pitched alarm would surely work better for self defence.. or a taser if you can't stand not causing some pain. The first thing an attacker will do is grab your arms - doubt you will get time to swing this at them and even if u do if you are pysically weak/vulnerable (the people this is supposed to be for) a little jab from this isn't exactly going to disable someone

@twoofakindmagic Such as the person that can't spell retarded? I mean seriously. If you are going to go and call someone retarded, learn to spell first. You make the rest of the people who understand the true potential of kubotans look stupid. In all truth though, these are ten times more effective than a fist, and a great alternative to a knife, especially since you don't have the accidental death that sometimes occurs. They can be used with pressure points and even fistloading.
