  • My wife and I retired in Victoria, but left after just two years. The vast number of homeless people in that city, and the negative attitude city politicans had for them, made living there very depressing. Victoria is a beautiful city, but once you look beyond the flowers, there is a lot of pain and suffering. No meaningful employment for the young, very low wages, over priced homes, even sewage dumping into the marine environment. Sure glad we got out of there.

  • Thanks for your comment. Are there many homeless people where you now live? Homelesspartners is hoping to expand to other cities to raise awareness and encourage the homeless.

  • Every time I take out the garbage from my Vancouver apartment, I have to smell the piss that they've left for us and I have to look at the little message another one of them left: "fuck work, squat your homes".

There are a lot of young (<30a) homeless kids that have come here from Quebec who are, in FACT, lazy and willing to live off of us who pay taxes and work for our amenities.

There are many homeless people who are simply irresponsible. Sad, really.

  • yes it is sad; why are they "irresponsible"? maybe they come from unhealthy homes; maybe we could understand better if we knew their stories by talking and getting to know them personally; from my own experience, many grew up in poverty or in foster care, were runaways and have been on the street since childhood and very many suffer mental illness

  • stop changeing the subject. rewarding the homeless doesnt help the situation

  • It's not about rewarding. It's about communicating that you care about the individual person. If your estranged son or daughter was on the street, would you say hello and ask how they are doing? or would you walk on by and ignore them?

  • in St.Johns Newfoundland there are over 150 people homeless in Newfoundland. majority are adults age ranging 18-50 years of age. The number is getting bigger. Some of us want change and what little money welfare gives us is just enough to eat for the month. Crime is growing ever so fast in Newfoundland. Jobs here don't give enough hours and it's minimum wage. I can't wait to have a thousand dollars, when I have the cash Im out of this NOFUTURELAND

  • that is cool

    you're a good person

    poverty exist because money exist

money is created. it's not even real

the lack of it in society however carries very real consequences

  • A gross generalization like that might make you feel better, but it's not the truth. There are always some people who will exploit any system, but the majority of people do not. Even if you don't buy that, it for example still costs more to investigate and prosecute welfare fraud than just paying out the welfare. Few people would choose to be homeless. Usually they are people who have no choice, whether from mental illness or because of abuse or something else.

  • I live in a small city outside in the lower mainland of British Columbia - due to our demography we have a lot of homeless - they live along the river that runs through town - the residents of my city - shamefull - no sense of community - the city is always going and throwing them out and destroying what little they have...what have we become.....
