@AZKOJYUN ahh okay. The labor government probably put some political spin in their speeches.

@123machet actually no it will only partially be powered by windfarm
-
@chayaus The proposed desal plant will run on 100% renewable energy. So that kind of ruins your point.

Get outta me surf O.o
The water goes to melb, why not built near melb. would lose votes!Pollution in long run=global warming worse=less water! Less water= more Desals needed for increasin population= LOSE.
Locals who went there for the short term building WILL NOT get there jobs back. The desal terns them into pussies. normal locals work in rain,if it spits the go home.
There was a small bin fire and the captain of the Wonthaggi CFA was asked if they should all run home crying. it's SH#%!

The only problem is that they pump the shit BACK INTO the sea. They should commercialize that brine shit. I'm sure somebody would get off using it.

We might as well not eat or breath. Seriously. Every single method of living means someone else dies. For example, you must eat SOMETHING that once lived, and that SOMETHING has to die, whether plant or animal. In the case of desalination, you can either let people die from thirst or kill the oceans while you turn seawater into freshwater. There's not enough freshwater to go around, that's a simple fact, and it will only get worse. The solution? Move to the stars or under the sea.

we could have solar distillation.....on glass....so the seawater.....fumes up bitch..

some much more efficient, less harmful alternatives
•The capital cost of the plant would could equip about 600,000 households with tank systems and pumps (at $5000 per house) that could provide more water than the plant's estimated production. Combined with recycling sewerage water and protecting our catchments. Energy needs are minimal also
•Stopping logging in Melbourne's water catchments would provide an extra 30 gigalitres of water. This water would also not require pumping to Melbourne.
umm, it probably would have made your point better to a few minutes and ACTUALLY EXPLAIN the problems with desalinization (if there are any) because I'm not going to just take some surfers word for it.

One community group Your Water, Your Say was sent bankrupt following a lost legal case after the group legally pursued the Victorian Government over lack of reports and consultation. The group lost and costs were pursued against it by the state government, sending it bankrupt.
