Http://captivedaughters.org discusses how human sex trafficking victims get lured into trafficking in the United states? Why is it so hard to identify traffickers?
Traffickers come into a town with their girls, rent a house or apartment, work the local scene, and as soon as law enforcement gets wind of them, they are gone--off to a new place, repeating the same cycle throughout the U.S.Pimps and traffickers are psychological experts, knowing exactly how to manipulate vulnerable teenage girls. They tend to target naive girls who have problems with family, school, boyfriends, or self-esteem -- girls who will be highly susceptible to the initial generosity, affection, and flattery offered by their new "boyfriend." Eventually the pimp will ask the girl to sell herself for him -- a request that if denied results in beatings and rape. A newer trend is the use of the girls themselves as recruiters. Pimps offer "bonuses" to prostitutes who can bring in new girls. The hunting grounds for these predators often are suburban areas of large cities. Pimps frequent neighborhood malls, clothing stores, tattoo/body piercing shops, juice bars, movie complexes, and bus stations in search of young girls to befriend. Middle America is another popular area for recruitment, in places where a young girl is susceptible to her new boyfriend's promise to help her become a model or movie star. Traffickers have recruitment down to a science. In most cases it takes only a few weeks to lure the girl into taking a trip with them -- a trip which will change their lives forever.Although America is an integral part in External trafficking, the American public remains ignorant with regard to the Internal trafficking of American children - preferring to believe that it only happens "over there". When confronted with the reality of trafficking or sexual exploitation, they dismiss the victims as "runaways" as children who willingly chose this lifestyle. A girl who runs away from home to escape family problems with no intention of entering prostitution frequently winds up in the hands of a pimp. Runaways generally leave home with enough money to sustain themselves for a week, after this point they are a vulnerable commodity. Down and out, hungry with nowhere to go, the pimp finds them in bus stations and seedy downtown area and offers badly needed food and shelter--- in exchange for prostitution. Once a girl is swept into this network, neither law enforcement nor their families can do much to get her back again. Each day, victims of this trade face violence, intimidation, rape, and torture from pimps, brothel owners, and clients. Learn to recognize victims, you may see them at the mall, transit station or just hanging out around town. If you are a young girl, be wary of whom you speak with, and even more wary of offers to model or act. To learn more about trafficking in the US please visit our website: http://CaptiveDaughters.org. • Two boys abducted in Missouri were found in a St. Louis suburb last Friday, in the home of a pizza shop employee. One had been missing for less than a week, the other for more than four years. News reports cited a statistic that 800,000 children disappear every year—or about 2,000 a day. Seriously? How reliable are these numbers?
