Mac surprises Amanda by taking her to Iris's office and telling her that it is now her office. He explains that he knows he hasn't been himself lately, finding out about Iris, but he has come to his senses. He still has Amanda, Sandy, Jamie, Matthew, and Rachel, a wonderful family, and he will be fine because he has them, and he wants Amanda to have this office and to someday take over Iris's position. Amanda is even more shocked about the job than she was about the office, saying she guesses she could handle the job in a few years, but isn't this kind of fancy for a beginning reporter? Mac tells Amanda that she deserves it for her hard work and loyalty. Amanda tells Mac that she appreciates all of this, but she also understands how Mac is feeling right now about Iris. Doesn't Mac think that one day he and Iris will make up, and Iris will want to come back to her job? Mac adamantly says no; no matter what happens, after what Iris did, she is no longer part of Mac's life or Cory Enterprises.
Meanwhile, receptionist Julie Ann Edwards, Zack's little sister, who is transferring to the San Francisco office with her policeman fiance Rick Graham, is going over plans for the upcoming 25th anniversary party with her replacement, Wendy. Julie Ann tells Wendy to call her in San Francisco if she has any questions, or talk to Mr. Cory. Wendy asks if she can also talk to Mrs. Wheeler, and Julie Ann says no; from what Julie Ann understands, Mrs. Wheeler isn't working there anymore...which is when Iris strolls in with a big smile and good-morning greetings for the surprised staff.
Rachel arrives at work, saying Mac left so early this morning, and Rachel is even more surprised than Amanda that Mac has given Amanda Iris's office. Then Mac tells Rachel he wants to make some changes in the anniversary party, and he was hoping they could work together with Julie Ann's replacement, Wendy, who's a little flummoxed about Cory's past history. Mac wants the anniversary party to be just right. Amanda, who is a friend of Julie Ann's, is saddened to hear of Julie Ann's transfer. Amanda thanks Mac for the office again, and Mac thanks Amanda for being the kind of daughter that any parent would adore because she can always be counted. Mac and Rachel then leave Amanda's new office to go to the picture archives, with Mac saying he bets they can find a snap of everybody they've invited.
Amanda is sitting at her new desk when Evan comes in with a report, looking for Iris. Amanda and Evan are surprised to see each other, but Amanda welcomes Evan back.
Iris congratulates Julie Ann on her new job in San Francisco and tells her she'll be invaluable to the San Francisco office, and if they don't treat Julie Ann right, Iris will set them straight. Julie Ann will be leaving that afternoon; her fiance Rick is taking her to the airport before tying up loose ends of his own and joining her there. Iris thanks Julie Ann for being wonderful to her. Julie Ann thanks Iris in reply, then goes to explain some things to Wendy.
Michael arrives for a meeting with Mac, and Iris misunderstands, thinking that Michael is going to do as she asked him to and talk to Mac about her. Michael sets her straight, then asks her what she wants from Michael. Iris almost ruined her father's business, she made a mess out of his life, and she wants Michael to just talk to him? The angry Mac emerges from his office then and demands to know what Iris is doing there, because he told her her not to come back there again. Hasn't she done enough damage?
