http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Before you discard your engine, watch this! Hey all! As I told before, I recently went out to get my HPI Savage X 4.6 RTR when my Kyosho Inferno DX's 10-year-old engine got locked up and jammed from un-use. Contrary to what the local distributor said, this engine condition, caused by hardened castor oil or castor varnish, is EASILY REVERSIBLE! While I found several forum posts on how to save locked airplane engines, I didn't manage to find a self-help video on this topic, so I decided that I'd best share my solution to all RC Car Hobbyists out there.

This works for all... plane engines, heli engines, buggy engines.

Things you need:
- WD40
- A disposable container
- Boiling Hot Water
- (Optional but recommended) RC Glow Fuel

Hope you find this helpful. If this worked for you, do leave me a kind regard in the comments box below!

  • I've got 3 nitro rc cars that have been sitting for a long time, im not 100% sure but i think it's around 6 years.

I didnt know about engine lock untill today when i went and got the rex x out of the shed and tried to turn the engine over and it was locked up tight and no sign of ever running again. I thought it was over.

I found this guide and 2 hours later the caked in oil and crap has been disolved with the hot water method you are teaching.

    Great video, thanks for uploading.

  • @dodgyplonk Thanks! Glad it helped you out. Another tip is that if you ever put your cars away again, be sure to use some after-run oil to prevent caking of synthetic oils and prevent corrosion. Also put your engine piston in BDC position (when there's no resistance when you turn it) so that you won't lose engine compression which may affect performance.

  • good video.

  • put it in the oven or torch the cylinder. metal expands. get pc air blaster and hit the piston with it.

  • well if you ran methonal and oil (without nitro) after use you wont have that problem!

  • When water mixes with oil it goes white this may be what your looking at.

    Heplful vid.
