Why are we "The Famous" Robert E. Lee Band?
During the 1960s, the REL band, under the direction of Dr. Charles Forque, became one of the largest and most famous high school bands in the United States. This period of acclaim brought the band its nickname, the "Famous" Robert E. Lee Band. The REL band performed at the opening of the Houston Astrodome, the opening of the Interstate 10 corridor in southeast Texas, and at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic as the 'model' high school band. During this period, the famous Tonight Show band leader Doc Severinson played several concerts with the Lee Band bringing the band even more publicity. The band is currently under the direction of Mr. Alec McGuire (1993-present) and Asst. Director Caleb Lopez (2007-Present).

  • i was in this band from 98-00 and i bought cried to hear you being called to attention. good Times

  • you might know one of my brothers. kris and jeremy loukas. jeremy graduated in '99, kris in '03.

it brings back stuff even for me, haha. and i'm still a junior, but it's anything but marching season right now.

  • So i hear there's a new Baytown high school opening up...

Why did y'all run off the field? Were y'all about to hit the 8-minute mark? Hopefully you'll step up the show for next year for state...i haven't seen many Region 10 Bands do well...

LCM made it to state but placed last in pre-lims..

  • We ran off for two reasons, one, time. Two, we were working on the show and improving things very close to the actual contest, and our ways of getting off the field each time were a bit complicated. It seemed easiest to just run off the field, and it was the biggest assurance to not overdo on time.

  • Last year we made it to Area, but didn't go far. We got 23rd out of 26. It was kinda screwy though because our judges' placings went as follows. Judge 1: 6th, Judge 2: 11th, Judge 3: 26th. Many believe that the last judge was biased against our school, and that's why the decisions went as they did.
