Dassi prófar glussadrifið í bílnum hans Halldórs. Þetta bara svínvirkar. David in the Icelandic Land Rover owners club, tries the hydraulic powered lo gear. In this video, the Defender is in neutral gear, and no clutch is used. Engine is in idle, just controlled with Halldors patented hydraulic system.

  • @justin76bmw Actually, I think you are correct in your first assumption. I was being a bit facetious with my comment. ;) I think they are running some special system. You could make a hydraulic system that could travel at speed of 50 mph or more. Really, the only speed limit would be your flow, pressure, and ability to cool the oil.

However, an automatic transmission with 2 or 3 transfer cases stacked(its been done) has gearing low enough to basically do what he just did.

  • @l337pwnage now i feel like a dumbass for visualizing an operating "hydraulic" drive rtuck, and realizing the fluid dynamics wern't rite to go fast... duhh.

  • Iceland??

  • @l337pwnage Cool but as i said originally i think the h1 is a little more capable than the defender.

  • @Inklebonker1 I completely agree that being light weight is not always the best, I was just challenging the belief that all HMMWV's were heavier than H1's

  • @l337pwnage Keep in mind though weight isn't always that pressing with ofroad vehicles for instance trophy trucks weigh from 6-9,000 lbs yet move through the desert at speeds exceeding 120mph. It just depends on the function and i think the h1 covers every ofroad category in such a way to make it the best off road vehicle ever made.

  • In the US we call that an "automatic transmission", lol.

  • @Inklebonker1 Originally they weren't. They are only heavy now because they turned them into armored vehicles. That was not their original function. Unarmored versions can weigh under, sometimes well under, 6,000#'s

  • @justin76bmw humvees are allot heavier than hummer h1s. H1s are still very capable offroaders despite their size.

  • @Inklebonker1 i was in the army. hmmwv's are big, slow, heavy, guttless, beasts that will make it through just about anything it can fit in. if u can't drive it through, just back up and use velocity in place of traction. they suck, are WAY too wide, but are built like a brick-shithouse. iv'e done unspeakable things with them that would have shattered most normal trucks. and they can do it with 2000lbs of .50cal gun turret, ammo, plate armor, and other stuff u don't usualy bring to go 4wheeli'n.
